If you’re looking for a simple, beautiful, and effective piece to use in your classroom, Dona Nobis Pacem is a classic that never disappoints. This timeless round is not just for choir performances—it’s perfect for warm-ups, ear training, and building confidence in young singers.
I’ve used Dona Nobis Pacem with both older and younger students, and it works wonders for all age groups. For older students, I love using it as a vocal warm-up—its repetitive structure makes it a great exercise for building harmony and tuning. The easy-to-follow melody and soothing repetition make it ideal for focusing on tone and pitch. It’s also a brilliant introduction to the concept of singing in a round or canon, which is always a crowd-pleaser.
With younger students, I’ve found Dona Nobis Pacem to be the perfect performance piece. Its simplicity and beauty allow kids to really focus on their phrasing and blending while creating something that sounds much more complex than it is. It’s a wonderful way to introduce them to the idea of group performance and to build their confidence.
To make it even easier for you, I’ve created a special guide track for Dona Nobis Pacem on You Tube where you can follow along with vocals, instrumental guidance, and a final backing track for practice.
You can also DOWNLOAD the tracks on my website, along with a lead sheet and individual MP3s. This way, your students can practice at home, and you can even use it as a teaching resource in class.
Whether you’re prepping for a performance or just need a quick and effective warm-up, Dona Nobis Pacem is a fantastic choice. Check out the full video and grab your resources today!
